Nancy Ortberg

Not all of my soul friends are personal friends. My blog is not about name dropping or a medium to show you how many influential people I know. Some are authors who impacted my life through their writing. One such soul friend is Nancy Ortberg. We share a passion for leadership. In her recent book, Unleashing the Power of Rubber Bands, Nancy challenges the reader to develop those you serve. Catch this,

Inherent in the leadership relationship is the expectation that over time, the direction you give will result in progress toward maturity, growth in skills and character, and even an increase in your own leadership competencies. I think it is a helpful and good discipline to write out a simple development plan for the people you lead.

This made me think, “Do I have an intentional development plan for those I lead?” “Will those I serve be better leaders because of my leadership?” I caught up with Nancy at the Innovation3 conference in Dallas and captured these comments on leadership and work:
